Thanks, Anonymous

Received this lovely comment on my last post:  (my husband, Jim, was a missionary and pastor at the church that Anonymous is referring to for nine years.  Jim resigned as a pastor and we decided to leave said church).

So Jim and You are liars?  I thought Jim said "First Baptist will be your church home".  Well I knew all along that you and Jim were liars, I just wish somebody would have spoken out against your hypocrisy & heresy.

So don't come back.  The church will function better off without either one of you.  Hope you have fun running from the church.

So, I wonder why we don't go to church there anymore?

To anyone out there who may be struggling with their own questions and doubts regarding the church (I speak of the Church as in Christianity, not any one particular church), who may have unfortunately run into a person like this along the way in your faith journey, I beg you to cling to that fading light of hope still in you that can find the faith to believe that people like this do not represent in any way anything that the church was ever meant to be.

Even as a basic stranger in life, I see you as a sister in Christ, and that means loving and accepting the road you're on and being an encouragement to you.

Life and faith are such a process for all of us. What you said in "march on" made it very clear you see the hand of God in your life and always have, that you desire His guiding hand, and his direction that's always been there. It is so evident that you are a seeker of his truths and His ways.

I'm being cryptic for a reason here, but recently you said your husband loves two authors in response to a question from me.

If you know who the heck I am, can you go to my site and email me? I wanted to share something with you that would be too long for comments :)

Unfortunately, many people are (unwillingly and some willingly) ignorant of the toll that full-time ministry can have on a person and family. To anyone who even remotely knows you, to hear someone say you are running from church and you are a hypocrite and heretic is crazy. There is a season for everything, and I am so glad you are taking this time to rest and enjoy each other and the goodness of the Lord for allowing it.

wow...i try to find something redemptive in any statement or circumstance, but the reality is that there is no value to be found in this couragous anonymous comment

note to any further voices of reason...it is unwise to "confront" heresy and hypocrisy while at the very moment of your anonymous writing you are in direct disobedience to God's commands regarding the address of offenses. (one on one, in spirit of meekness, and with a heart of reconcilliation)

jess, sorry your have to field this garbage. love you guys, praying for you.

Hey Jess, I'm sorry about this as I'm sure it was hurtful. I can hardly believe someone could call you hypocritical because you are one of the most real, authentic people I've met. And heresy? That's a pretty serious charge. It seems to me that Anonymous should sit down with you to discuss this rather than post the accusation on your blog.

i had a person on my blog say "you are not a christian. A christian doesn't support the murder of babies. You support the murders of babies, the blood of babies is on your hands". What a jerk. But hey, let God deal with him.

i wonder if it's the same person?

I'm so sorry. You guys don't deserve to have to deal with this stuff.

Hi, I did get your email yesterday and wrote you back. I just wanted to make sure it didn't go to your junk mail cause that happens a lot with my email address.
Not that you should hurry up and write me back, no hurry. I just wanted to be sure you knew I responded! :)

i'm outraged by that comment. not just as a fbc member, but as a friend.

you two have been a major encouragement to me. especially through all this political junk. i've prayed and are praying for you and totally agree with your decision to leave fbc. i seriously doubt i (or even mr./mrs. anonymous) would have reacted with the grace that you two have exhibited over the past year.

just thought you should know that there are people that still think very highly of you around these parts. :)

oh, jess, we feel your pain...so sorry...i have absolutely no idea where these people are coming from...they must not know you well at all. i am learning more and more that God's way never "looks" right if you only have physical understanding...only through spiritual understanding can grace and love even begin to make sense.

Jess, God has given you a heart of wisdom...I will say this again, and probably say it again to you in person some time, but thanks....thanks for being a willing vessel to share parts of your life through this online journal of sorts....you have such a sweet, precious heart....take care!

This must have been so painful for you. Not just the hurtful comments, but the whole decision to leave. I had no idea you were wrestling with all that. And it sunds like it's been going onfor quite some time. It's obvious from your posts that your love for the Lord and your seeking of truth come from a very pure place. I hope and pray you find the right spot...and a loving congregation to match.

oh Jess. You and Jim are such amazing representations of the true spirit of Jesus. It gives me so much pain to know that people who are supposed Christ followers, can be so cruel, uninsightful, blinded, selfish, uninspired, shall I go on???? people. No one hurts you as bad as another "christian". Are we not called to first of all "love one another"? So how do these people justify their nasty spirits? I can tell you... there is something seriously wrong with their relationship with the Lord. Not that anyone is perfect, but if you are seeking to destroy, cut down, maim, hurt, dismember the Body... what is that all about? Does a healthy part of our body try to destroy another part? I am just sorry that they have come to represent FBC to you. There are so many of us who love, respect, adore, admire, and MISS you at FBC. Please know that these crazy supposed christians are in the minority. I mean low minority and I know that. Someday they will have to answer for their behavior and the way they are trying to divide and destroy our wonderful church. In the meantime, I love you and keep you in my prayers. You have both influenced my life in a tremendous way. God will honor you for that and the many other lives you have touched. Keep the faith. Erica

Wow.....I cannot believe a child of God could act this way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would not want to be the person to stand before God! Jim and Jess are amazing people with AMAZING hearts!! I THINK MORE PEOPLE NEED TO EXAMINE THEIR HEARTS!!!!! OUR ONLY REASON LEFT ON EARTH IS TO REACH THE LOST!!!!!! There are people all around us lost dying and going to HELL!!!! That needs to be our focus instead of attacking our brothers and sisters in Christ!!!!! How is this showing the love of Christ to the lost world and encouraging them to come into a relationship with God.....We love you Jim and Jess.....

You know Jess, I just read this and I am furious, angry is not stong enough. I am sorry that you and Jim have to hear that kind of garbage. Your willingness to follow Christ has impacted many people like us. Like the lady who made a spectacle in church that infamous morning, I have to wonder should we, on the complete opposite side of the aisle made our views and desires just as obvious, or should I say obnoxious? I become so enraged when I think of what has happened to you guys and the Clarks and I wonder if the saying "nice guys finish last" is as true in church politics as it is in worldly politics. We love you and if we should have made our confidence in you guys louder we apologize for that too. I truly pray for healing of your hearts because we feel that hurt for you. We sit in a building on Sundays and miss your presence and enthusiasim for real, practical, and livable passion for following Christ.

Amen Betty. I was not there on the infamous morning but I also wish we had stood up and said NO, you bullies are not going to ruin our church and run out those who speak honest truth from their hearts as God intended. Sorry if the truth hurts but if you don't like it, find yourself a nice legalistic box to sit in and leave us alone. Erica

Wow!! Isn't that sad-boy can you imagine what is in that heart. Can't be God!! He definately doesn't respond like that. It is sad that there are people in our church like. We don't need people like that to love others. I am sorry to say. It is sad that the issue has turned from reaching people who need a relationship with God to tearing down those who have encouraged and challenged us in our walk with God.

We miss you Jim and Jess!! Thank you for letting God use both of you GREATLY!! Maybe some day you can start a place where we can Love God and people!!!

Isnt crazy that the small negative group that spoke out had to be heard the loudest.

As I read over what I wrote yesterday-I did the Monday morning quarterback thing. My words came out a little stronger than I had thought they did. I think I was in awe of how people's words can effect one another, and that goes for mine also.

So all that to say-I am sorry for my words coming across harsh, it was not meant to be that way.
